Imaging exam helps you track health status of internal organs!

In abdominal organ system, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen and kidneys are majorly responsible for metabolism, of which are often ignored. Gall bladder is a small organ where bile is stored and concentrated before being released. Bile is produced by hepatocytes and aids the digestion and absorption of lipids. The most common gall bladder disease is gallstone. In addition to personal constitution, high-fat diet is the primary contributing factor of gallstone. Gallstone may occur within gall bladder or bile duct, where causes fever, jaundice, liver abscess, acute pancreatitis if obstructed.
Pancreas is a glandular organ responsible for pancreatic juice, insulin, and somatostatin, assisting the digestion of glucose, fat, and protein to maintain the homeostasis of blood glucose. It is also the most important endocrine and exocrine organ and supporting role in digestive system. Even so, the functions of pancreas are indispensible. The renowned founder of the brand “APPLE”, Steve Jobs, died of pancreatic cancer. The 5-year mortality rate of pancreatic cancer is up to 95%. Pancreatic cancer, sometimes called the “Silent killer”, may have insignificant symptoms at initial stage, of which requires thorough examinations. Besides pancreatic cancer, acute pancreatitis is a more common symptom associated with alcohol abuse and high triglycerides.
The spleen is the primary hematopoietic organ during fetal period and the most important immune organ during adolescence. In adults, the hematopoietic function will be taken over by the bone marrow when the spleen becomes the principal immunity initiation organ. The most common problems in the spleen are splenomegaly. In addition to hypersplenism, liver cirrhosis, infection, and hematological disorders are all contributing factors to splenomegaly. Trauma, including car accident, often causes spleen rupture due to thin exterior membrane. Although splenectomy is harmless to human bodies, it increases infection rate easily.
Kidneys are organs to filter blood to make urine (excretion) and maintain acid-base equilibrium as well as endocrine functions. Common kidney disorders include proteinuria, hematuria, nephredema, dysuria, etc. The worst kidney complication is renal failure. When kidney function is below 30%, symptoms including anemia, nausea, and edema may appear. When kidney function is less than 5%, the kidneys fail to remain normal metabolism. If chronic renal failure starts to impede renal functions, either dialysis or kidney transplantation will be performed to maintain normal blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine levels.
